PM (2:00pm - 10:30pm) or

Day Shift Role with expectation of working PMs and Nights as needed.


Pharmacy Tech Certification will be required by October, 2019

Working under the supervision of a pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician will assist the Pharmacist in providing pharmaceutical care for all of our customers.  The Technician is responsible for entering information into the computer correctly, collecting proper payments, using proper phone etiquette.  The Technician will also prepare and mix sterile preparations, unit dose, prescriptions and injectable medications.  In the hospital, the Technician will deliver medications to patient care units and perform data entry and charge functions on the computer. The Technician will maintain supplies and respond to patient, internal and external customer requests.

Job Responsibilities
  • Obtaining accurate information from patients including personal and insurance information, and efficiently entering information into the computer system.
  • Aseptically prepares and mixes sterile preparations (e.g. PBs, IVPBs, TPNs, PPNs) for distribution to patient care areas.
  • Prepares unit dose and injectable medications for distribution to patient care units.
  • Assisting the pharmacist in filling prescriptions by counting the correct number or filling the right amount of liquid as required.
  • Performs data entry,charge functions, insurance information in the computer for all customers as needed. Operates cash register and performs transactions with proper receipts to patients.

  • Prepares and maintains accurate records for all medications including narcotics and alcohol.
  • Provides customer service, skilled at appropriate use of communication systems.
  • Maintains supplies in pharmacy and patient care areas (including checking in, pulling outdates, rotating stock, inventory, expensing, delivery, and use of the want book).
  • Participates in providing customer service to patients and other Gundersen Health System departments.

  • Assists with maintaining cleanliness in department, guaranteeing sterility with appropriate measures.
  • Provides 1:1 training for new employees.
  • Performs other job-related responsibilities as requested.

    Position Qualifications
    Education and Experience:
    Required High School Diploma or equivalency 
    If working in Minnesota, within 12 months of hire date must complete Minnesota approved Pharmacy Technician Training Requirements
    Desired Post High School education in a specialized field:   Pharmacy Technician Technical School Program 

    Work Experience:
    Required 1 year work experience in the service sector.
    Desired 1 year related healthcare experience in a general support or service area, requiring basic pharmacy knowledge and skills.

    Required If working in Minnesota, must be registered with the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy (MNRPHT) and 
    If working in Iowa, must be registered with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy (IARPHT) and must be a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPHT) within 12 months of hire date through the Pharmacy Technician Board or National Healthcareer Association
